Welcome to Caterpillar Class!

Please make sure that children have their PE kits in school from Monday to Friday. Our PE lessons will usually be on a Thursday and Friday but these are subject to change.
Once your child has learnt all of their key words, they will be sent spellings home weekly. They will be sent home on a Wednesday to learn ready for a test on the Monday.
Please make sure your child's reading record and reading book are in school every day.
Autumn Term

We have had a great start to year one. The children have really enjoyed their Marvellous Me topic and sharing information about themselves. We have used ipads to take a selfie and write sentences about ourselves. We have created self portraits, using both paint and on the computers. Inventing our own superheros was great fun! We chose some amazing superpowers.
We enjoyed attending the Harvest Festival at the church and performing our songs to the grownups. We collected lots of food for the Salvation Army.
On the last day of this half term, we welcomed parents in to our class. We have been learning about changes that happen in Autumn and read a story called Don't Hog the Hedge. Our parents helped us with lots of activities including; painting autumn trees, creating leaf hedgehogs and counting autumn objects.
We are looking forward to learning all about London next half term!
Welcome back and Happy New Year.
This half term we have been learning about animals - how they are grouped together and what they like to eat.
In English we have been learning about information texts, specifically how to write lists using a bullet point.   We are looking at the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear ?  The children have enjoyed joining in with repeatable phrases and learning when to use a question mark.   We have introduced pre cursive letter formation to the children, to get them ready to join their handwriting in year 2.
In maths we have been learning about place value using tens and ones.  We have been improving our addition and subtraction skills using number lines to help with calculations.
We continue to enjoy gymnastics with Mr Carr and multi skills with Mr Allen.
We have been exploring paper art, creating collages, and soon we will be making papier mache !
As always, reading at home with your child is appreciated, as often as you can.   All the children now have weekly spellings to learn, given out on a Wednesday and tested the following Monday.

Welcome back for another exciting half term! Hopefully you are all feeling rested and raring to go with our exciting new topics!
In English we are learning about instruction texts. We have started our topic off by reading the book "How to wash a woolly mammoth", and we will also be looking at how to make pancakes! Just in time for Shrove Tuesday!
Our topic this half term is "Come Dine with Me". The children will be looking at where food comes from, what foods are healthy, and they will be designing their own menu and creating their own food to host an afternoon tea for the children in school, and hopefully the parents as well! More information on this will follow in a letter.
In maths the children have been looking at numbers to and beyond 50.
Homework will start to be given to the children. It will either have a maths or topic theme and it will be based on what the children have been learning in school. The homework will be set fortnightly.
In English today, the children were learning about the features of an instruction text. We looked closely at the use of imperative (bossy) verbs. Here are a selection of some of the commands children came up with while playing games!
"Put your hands on your eyebrows!"
"Put your hands on your hips!" - This one did lead me to sing the Time Warp!
"Roll on the floor!"
"Walk around the table 5 times!"
