SCIENCE ROCKS !

How are we going to make things move ?

Use the force !!!

This week we transformed into SUPER SCIENTISTS and explored the amazing and exciting world of FORCES!.  The week started off with a fantastic workshop in which we learnt about the importance of saving energy , we even had a visit from a rat! .We followed the session by using  our ICT skills to make our energy saving energy wasting posters.

spring term 2015

Happy new Year and welcome back , we all hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New year.  Now the fun and the hard work starts again!

There are lots of exciting topics in store for this term.

spring term topics  will be Toys for the first half term and castles for the second half term. These topics will have a history focus .

Pared reading . We have introduced paired reading in which children read every week , Children read to thier partner and write comments in their own reading records. This is proving to be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience.

LET IT SNOW !

we couldn't resist popping outside to watch the snow !  There wasn't quite enough to build a snowman but we did enjoy trying to catch the snowflakes on our hands and tongues!

Games afternoon

Your family homework challenge this half term was to create a game , the results were out of this world. The children had a wonderful time on the last day of half term playing each others games . Thank you to everybody who took part in the challenge . We have decided to keep the games in our classroom to be used during wet playtime and lunch times.

Oranges and Lemons say the bells of St Clements !

As part of our topic on toys and games we  enjoyed learning and playing some traditional games in our PE lessons. The skipping proved to be highly entertaining , even Miss Swift and Miss Stokes had a go!

Use the force !

We explored how a force could change the shape of an object either temporarily or permanently. Here we are having some fun with dough !

stretch it, pull it , squeeze it, roll it, twist it .

Lights , camera, action !  This half term we became film makers when we were challenged to make a short film to illustrate a science fact about forces. Some of our films showed examples of pushes and pulls, whilst others showed how a force can make an object stop, slow down and change direction.

                                                                                                                         Autumn Term 2014

As the Autumn term draws to a close I would like to take  the opportunity to say  thank you to all children, parents and staff for the warm welcome you have all shown me in my first term at Ormesby Village Infant School. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term and feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful school.

This  half term we have been exceptionally busy , wonderfully creative and amazingly enthusiastic and eager to learn!

Our first topic  the Weather saw us become weather detectives as we recorded the different weather conditions in the United kingdom and elsewhere in the world. We designed  made and evaluated tents for our visiting  alien Zog . For our family homework children designed and made 3D seasons using shoe boxes. We spent a wonderful afternoon looking at all our amazing creations , which have now taken pride of place in our school corridors. Thankyou to all parents, friends, grandparents for your support .

RE week saw us learning about the Jewish Festival of Shabbat , we had great fun working in teams to  design and make  Sukkot shelters.

Before we knew it, Christmas was here!  We all thoroughly enjoyed performing The Christmas Cobweb

We worked together in teams to make our own miniature Sukkot shelters. We had to observe the special  rules. Three sides of the shelter must be covered. The roof must be covered with leaves .

Did somebody say party?

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a party!  We all dressed up in our finest clothes , busted a move on the dance floor and enjoyed party food around our Christmas  table.  A perfect end to a busy term.

Reverend Mandy led our Christingle service . The Year Twos held the lighted Christingles as we sang.
