Miss Anderson's Class

Teaching Year R 2016/17

This year, our topics will be:

  • All About Me

  • Witches and Wizards

  • Where does our food come from?

  • Dinosaurs

  • People who help us

  • Animals, from the ant to the zebra

Important Information:

Our class have P.E every Tuesday, and will also be starting gymnastics on a Thursday from 2/03/17so please ensure children have their P.E kit at school on those days.

Remember to send your child to school with a labelled water bottle, and make sure all of their school uniform and P.E kit has your child's name inside.

Sound Books will be sent home on a Friday containing the new sounds taught that week. Practising their 'rainbow letters' will help children to form their letters correctly.  You can also support your child's learning at home by doing their keywords with them, and learn the actions to our sounds!

After a successful induction, the children have been settling into school life, making friends, and learning lots of new things! We have done some work on feelings, and came up with our own classroom rules to make sure everyone is safe and happy at school.

Our Phonics sessions teach us new sounds using fun actions to help us remember them. There are also lots of opportunities for writing, and the children are learning to listen for their sounds as they write.

We need to learn our numbers to 2O, so have been doing lots of counting and number recognition, using games on the interactive whiteboard and iPads to help us.

The children are now familiar with the classroom environment, and are beginning to select resources that help them to develop as independent learners.

Reception went on an Autumn walk around the school grounds to look for signs that the seasons are changing.

Our topic this half-term is Witches and Wizards. The children have been busy developing our role-play area, as well as completing some witches and wizards-related activities. We have shared lots of witch and wizard stories to inspire our writing and used our imaginations to make our own potions!

3/02/17 Maths Workshop

Parents and family members were invited into school on Friday morning to find out about how we teach Mathematics in Reception and to share some learning experiences with their children. We first practised counting in twos and tens before reading the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. After this, children completed a range of activities, including ordering the days of the week, creating repeating patterns and finding matching pairs.  Thank you to all who attended for your continued support!
