FEATHERSTONE 2015 JULY 2, 2015

You will be able to see what’s happening on the school trip by following this blog!

The Year 2 children together with staff and governors had a fantastic day out at Featherstone Primary & Nursery School in Southall, London. The blog that ran live during the day is in the left column and some photographs are shown below.

Everyone started by going to the Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha Gurdwara* which was next to Featherstone Primary & Nursery School. Before entering the boys and girls passed the Nishan Sahib, then on entry to the Gurdwara had to cover their heads and remove shoes. They then kept very quiet as they made there way to the Darbar Sahib. Following this they went to the Langar and were offered something to eat and drink.

As the day continued children from both schools joined together in teams to take part in activities together.

  • Children listened to the story of the hare and the tortoise was read in Punjabi and then also acted out.
  • They had a chance to have hair braided and mehndi designs in henna put on their hands.
  • There was a chance to try the Dhol drum and bhangra dance!
  • Children worked together to make Chapatti's, stawberry and mango Lassi's and Raita. Most also tasted them!

All the children then came together in the closing assembly with Featherstone pupils giving a rousing performance on the African drums!

*Gurdwara, meaning the gateway to the guru, is the place of worship for Sikhs; however, people of all faiths are welcomed in the Gurdwara. The gurdwara has a Darbar Sahib where the Guru Granth Sahib is seen and a Langar where people can eat free food. A gurdwara may also have a library, nursery, and classroom. A gurdwara can be identified from a distance by tall flagpoles bearing the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag.

We hope to add some more photo's from this years visit here soon!
